There is a captivating story to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den wagering is not legal. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect location, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are means around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling hall, highlights 150 one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that highlights a number of comforts on top of the gambling den, which has 10,000 square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 table games.
