There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is against the law. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime spot, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau casino, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel building that features a number of luxuries on top of the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
