Cambodia Gambling Dens

by Meghan on Mar.19, 2022, under Casino

There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino gaming is against the law. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime location, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that contains many amenities in addition to the gambling den, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and 88 tables.
